Pupil Voice

School Council

The school council comprises of 17 members from classes across KS1 and KS2.

We meet regular to discuss issues that concern us as a school community and have chosen this year to focus on mental health. As a council we recognise the impact Covid has had on children’s mental wellbeing over the last two years and support the school’s initiative in raising aspirations of all children. We are engaging in projects that support improving health and wellbeing in all children and are very visible to our peers and are readily available to listen to their concerns.

Head Boy & Girl

Promoting British Values is very important to us here at Edgar Stammers, especially Democracy.  Furthermore, as a Rights Respecting School, we also encourage the pupils to have their say in how their school is run and to have their voices heard. Therefore, as well as having an active School Council, we also have a yearly election to select a Head Boy and Girl, as well as a Deputy of each.

Firstly, candidates have to write a persuasive letter to be eligible to stand for election. This is then followed by a week of campaigning and canvassing, culminating in the whole school having a vote of who they wish to represent them. Votes are cast, counted and verified with the winners being announced in the next assembly. Throughout the year, the Head Boy and Girl represent the school in many ways and are relied upon to be a role model to others. They also have their say in things that matter to them or can act upon things they have promised when they wrote their manifesto.

ECO Committee

Our Eco committee was established in 2021 and has been working towards achieving the ‘Schools Green Flag Award’ ever since.

Our committee comprises of members from all classes across KS1 and 2 and staff members. Appreciating climate change and the need to be more proactive in protecting our carbon footprint we have under gone an audit of our effectiveness in meeting COP initiatives and quickly realised there is a lot we can do as a school to make a difference to our planet. We have three key aims: 1. Being more energy efficient, 2. Adopting good recycling practices and 3. Ensuring we look after and maintain our school environment. We meet regular to discuss topics of interest and engage is a range of activities such as community litter picks, enviromental improvements and national initiatives to promote climate change. We know we can’t change the world but we know every little thing we do helps to save our planet!

Lunchtime Leaders

At Edgar Stammers Primary Academy our Year 5 and 6 pupils have the opportunity to become members of our “Lunchtime Leaders” team. Each week, a group of trained leaders help to organise a variety of fun and engaging games. They offer a range of ‘calm’ and ‘active’ activities that suit the interests of all children.

Lunchtime Leaders are very supportive and show maturity when organising and leading the activities. They are an asset to our school and have helped make lunchtimes more structured and enjoyable for all.

They are responsible for:

  • Helping the Lunchtime supervisors to put out and pack away the equipment
  • Setting up playground activities
  • Involving as many children as possible in the games
  • Explaining the game and rules to the children
  • Teaching children new games and skills
  • Making sure the activities are run fairly
  • Report any behaviour incidents to a member of staff
  • Play with children if they are lonely

Jigsaw Ambassadors

At Edgar Stammers Primary Academy, we have Jigsaw Ambassadors.

Each year group has a child who supports children in their year, attends Jigsaw meetings and takes a role in the development of PSHE in the school. The children follow up on Jigsaw pieces, discuss their sessions and advise the Jigsaw Leader of the thoughts and feelings of the children around the school. They also help to ensure each piece is celebrated and all children have a say in their personal, social and well-being provision in school.
